Dr. Tanisha Burks

I am honored to serve as the proud principal of Laurel Woods Elementary School. Since beginning my career in education in 2005, I have been privileged to serve as a Special Education teacher, Literacy Coach, Response to Intervention Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and Principal. These experiences have shaped my belief that every child deserves to be known, challenged, and supported.

I earned my bachelor's degree from The College of William & Mary, my master's degree in Special Education from The Pennsylvania State University, and my Doctorate in Educational Leadership from The George Washington University.

At LWES, we are committed to helping every student grow academically, socially, and emotionally through meaningful relationships, engaging learning experiences, and strong partnerships with families and our community. Together, we strive to create a school where every child feels valued, inspired, and empowered to succeed.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Kermit, and our twins, Madie and Cole. We love traveling, fishing, and making memories together.
